HikVision (Luma) Settings ? [SOLVED]

Q: What is the recommended setting for resolution to display on:

Echo Spot
Echo Show 2nd Generation
Echo Show 5 (just announced)

Would seem that sending a 4k stream is worthless in terms of eating bandwidth, etc. Even 1080 may be overkill on screens this small.

My cameras (Luma 710 - equivalent to Hikvision’s 4k cameras) have up to 3 streams. I have my main stream set to 4k using H256 so that cannot work for Echo devices.

My 2nd stream is set to 640x480 (*which for some odd reason is the max resolution for Sub Stream) H264 and this does work with Echo/Monocle.

My optional 3rd stream is set to 1280 x 720p but when viewing the media information through VLC the resolution is showing as 704 x 578 (3:4) and I cannot get this stream to display on Echo/Monocle.

Any ideas?

Since the actual screen resolutions are all smaller than 1080P, the camera view will be scaled down so its not like you are going to get a real HD experience/quality anyway. I run most of my cameras at 720P or 1080P. (Certainly 720P for wireless connected cameras.)

It’s not unusual for a camera to limit the resolution on secondary streams. I think the manufacturers are putting in these limits in effort to prevent taxing the hardware too much.

Lucky you, many cameras only support 2 streams! Not sure what’s going on with the third stream in this case. Is it using H.264, does it include an audio channel and if so what audio codec is it using? Try rebooting the camera to see if the “correct” streaming resolution kicks in? Does the resolution in VLC change if you set it to some other resolution setting?
