Server requires registration on website

Hi. Just downloaded Monocles to try it out but I’m stuck in a loop.
I don’t think I’m stupid, maybe I am missing something obvious, but this process seems awful.

Open app, says it will guide me through account creation.
Enter chosen usename.
Auto generates a new password(?)
Error message saying ‘Server requires registration on website’.
Register on website.
Says username is invalid if I include the @, if I don’t include the @ part I get the error message ‘Server requires registration on website’.
