The dreaded "Hmmm..."
-
Just got an Echo Show 4 and thought it’d be cool to be able to look at my security cams. I’ve got 6 HikVision cameras around the perimeter of the house. Right now I’m just trying to get the one I care about most to work.
I won’t copy/paste all the logs/terminal settings yet but suffice it to say the stream works on VLC, Alexa sees the camera and adds it. I’ve got the Monocle gateway going, I’m able to ping the computer at the correct port with no issue. I’ve tried all kinds of different tags… But I keep getting “Hmmm… the camera isn’t responding” when I try to view it.
The only caveat I’ll add is that the monocle gateway is on the same server as my SecuritySpy server. I don’t know if they fight each other but I’d assume that if I can see the stream on the HikVision web interface as well as VLC, it shouldn’t be an issue. But I don’t know. I’m running out of ideas.
Can anyone assist?
Thank you.

@ericwass Just an additional point:
I used the lsof command and do not see any other services using port 433. -
@ericwass I think you will also have to transcode your camera’s video stream to a size/format that the Echo Show expects. Most folks are using 1080p security cams these days and the older Echo Shows use either a 720p or 800p resolution. Been a while but I remember some instructions for using ffmpeg to transcode the video on-the-fly.

@ferrellsl Thanks for the tip. I did have it at 1080p because I thought the Echo Show 5 (I accidentally put 4 in my original post) supported it. However, I did change the camera to 720p and it didn’t fix the issue. I’ve tried everything I can think of. So frustrating.
