Re: echo show not working with cameras

Hello, a late update. In March, I wrote that my Echo Shows were not affected. But now they have been hit too. My Echo Show 7 probably received a firmware update recently, and now Monocle Cam no longer works. Thanks a lot, Amazon :-/. I have now found out:
The reason Monocle Cam is not working is due to a policy change and firmware update at Amazon that effectively blocks RTSP streams for Alexa devices. The future now lies in solutions that support the official Amazon Smart Home Camera API or use completely alternative methods.
It is not known whether @Robert is able and willing to remedy this situation. And as I said, I would also be willing to support @Robert financially, e.g., with a monthly or annual sum of money. Until then, we can only look for other ways.
If anyone has found a working and practical alternative, it would be great if they could share this solution with us.
One more note: If Monocle Cam still works on your Echo Show, try blocking Amazon’s automatic updates. Help on how to do this is available online.

        Hi

Just been wiped out too :( and looking for alternatives. I found this

        https://github.com/goruck/alexa-ip-cam

Not sure its for the masses, i am trying to work my way through it but I and not a programmer to so slow going.

The premiss is you host you own “server” that has proxies the the camera feeds over https.
Then you create your own skill that accesses your server via the amazon alexa API.

Its quite an old project so not sure if it would still work, but if someone in the community as more programming skills would be really helpful if they could take a look.

Same happened to me. Our old Show stopped working. Our Fire TV’s never worked. And then we replaced our old Show with a new Echo Show 21 (technically not supported by monocle) and that had the same issues.

Your post helped me identify the problem. I was struggling trying to get the Monocle gateway to work, because I thought it was just that Amazon was requiring encrypted streams. But it turns out I wasn’t doing anything wrong. Amazon tightened the screws yet again.

Until Monocle has a solution, I turned to Scrypted. As long as you don’t use the cloud recording and alert features it’s free. I installed it as a windows service using a script from their website. It’s a bit more involved than Monocle, and I had to reconnect things a couple of times to get everything refreshed and showing up, but now my cameras work like they used to. As far as I know, Srypted is currently the only free option which uses the Amazon API required. Spent a few days on this so hopefully this will help someone else save some time. Good luck!

@dubious Interesting, do you have and guides of how you got it working or what is required to use Scrypted?
