Remote Alexa/Fire Devices [ANSWERED]
-
I bought a ReoLink camera (first of several planned) for use with iSpy. Got it set up and working and then noticed the Monocle skill on Amazon Alexa.
As I already had an Ethernet connected Raspberry Pi 3+B on my network, I installed your gateway on it, and within minutes had the ability to show the camera on my FireTV connected TV, via your skill. Apart from the 10 second delay, which I understand is more of a Alexa problem than a Monocle problem, all working fine.
However, we have a 2nd home, which is also equipped with Alexa Echo devices and a Firestick. The Amazon devices are registered on the same Amazon UK account as the devices in our first home. Is there any way of being able to also display the camera(s) from our main home on the FireStick/TV in our 2nd home? I am more than happy to forward any ports necessary on our router, and also, if necessary, install a 2nd Raspberry PI and your gateway software on the LAN in our 2nd location. Perhaps it is just a question of registering each camera twice, once with its local address, and once with its public Internet address, and registering a 2nd gateway?
Thanks for any input you can give.

Hi Roger,
Yes, it can be done via a few different options – please see my post in this thread:
https://forum.monoclecam.com/topic/232/can-monocle-gateway-work-from-a-2nd-house-with-appropriate-firewall-port-s-openedBasically, we plan on adding direct support for this type of feature in the future where you can simply run a separate instance of Monocle Gateway and not have to do anything to open ports, firewalls, NATs, etc. But for now, multiple gateways are not yet supported, so you can make it work with one of the network-based solutions.
Thanks, Robert

@Monocle Thanks for the prompt response Robert. Looks like option 3 is probably the best way forward. Will do some prep on the router/Monocle gateway before we go away next time and the give it a go when we are at our 2nd home.
Thanks
Roger
