I was an early adopter of this service. I added my local IP, no authentication, G3 flex cameras (seven) to the Portal and it all worked great.

Here lately I have been doing a review of all my devices and noticed this is no longer working.

Has there been a change to the Ubiquity pairing?

Nothing had changed on our end. What Alexa device are you using? All of the newer Alexa devices now require using our Monocle Gateway software solution as well.

        Thanks, Robert

Oh ok - I just figured this out…

Are you serious? What a backwards step…

I had Echo Spots and “upgraded” to Echo Show 8’s

Man I hate running middleware - can the middleware run on QNAP?

QNAP has “Container Station” which loads Docker images.
I’ll be experimenting with this and let you know how it goes.

Yes, and I agree. It all has to do with Amazon now enforcing that all camera connections use valid SSL certificates and a public DNS hostname … even for local/private network traffic. It’s very unfortunate.

I had Echo Spots and “upgraded” to Echo Show 8’s

Please also be aware that the “new” Echo Show 5 and 8 model will not display a camera stream with a resolution greater than 1080P. This is also unfortunate as most Alexa devices will happily display the stream and simply scale it on screen.

Man I hate running middleware - can the middleware run on QNAP?

I don’t have a QNAP to verify, but I would assume you can. I do run it in my house on a Synology NAS using a Docker instance.

QNAP has “Container Station” which loads Docker images.

Here are the instructions I use for the Synology:

Or you can just start with the plain docker container here:

Please read these pages carefully, the networking considerations are very important as the running container will need to be able to access your IP cameras and the Alexa devices must be able to access the container on port 443 from your private LAN:

I’ll be experimenting with this and let you know how it goes.

Please do and if you would be able to document the steps that would be very helpful for others.

            Thanks, Robert

If your QNAP supports it, you could also probably run a full Ubuntu VM instance and install Monocle Gateway on it. The Docker option will use less resources but could be more tricky to setup.

              Thanks, Robert
