@flynmoose said in echo show not working with cameras:

I gave up. Not to disparage our host but this isn’t the first round of “working / not working.”

I ended up setting up Scrypted in a docker container on a Proxmox VM and it was VERY straightforward and worked within minutes. I’m sure there are downsides there but the WAF (wife acceptance factor) of “just make it work” won out over loyalty.

Can you show some more light on how you set this up? do you still need to use monocle?

@Toto Same here. Worked only for a couple of hours. I haven’t checked, but apparently factory reset restores the original firmware which works with Monocle and then the device updates to the new one which doesn’t work

@themlruts - no you don’t use Monocle at all.

I probably shouldn’t have even brought it up here since it is sort of a competing product.

I’m experiencing the same problems as everyone else. “cameras not responding”. Only temporary fix is to factory reset the echos, but hours or days later it happens again. After not seeing any response from @Monocle, I tested Scrypted. It works and doesn’t appear to have the 4 second lag that Monocle had. The only issues I have with Scrypted is that the camera only runs for a few hours before the echo goes back to the home screen. Have you, or anyone else, ran into this and know of a work around?

I’m using Unifi cameras with Echo as a baby monitor. Worked great with Monocle until recently. I’d like to use Scrypted, but the feed shuts down after a few hours for whatever reason and I haven’t been able to figure out why.

Hey Robert, your attention is really appreciated, but a short reply for our echo problem is welcome, even when a fix will need some time. Best Toto

@themlruts Did you have to purchase a license for Scrypted??? We also use our Echo devices as baby monitors and would like these to start working again. Thank You

I have had the same problem for weeks. However, with a slight deviation.

I have 2 Echo Show 8 1st generation. On these, the playback of the cameras (different types) works without any action. But there are also days when nothing works. And then it’s fine again a day later.

I also have an Echo Show 15, on which the camera playback has not worked for weeks.

It doesn’t seem to be the same problem as in October 2023 (expired certificate). Otherwise it wouldn’t work on any device and it wouldn’t work all the time. Is Amazon involved with “new features” again?

It would be great if there will be a solution to the problem. I would also be prepared to pay a monthly/annual fee for a better service, e.g. like for “MyMedia”.

In my opinion is Monoclecam dead, because Roberts last Login was 23.October 2024 ! What a pitty

@flynmoose Thank you for the information. I setup docker/scrypted on my RASPI 4 and got it working with little effort. It seems to work well in my testing so far. It even let’s alexa display a group of cameras at a time unlike the monocle skill. I’m pretty pleased.

I guess this is the end of my run with MonocleCam. It was pretty good while it lasted and I appreciate the development work up to this point.

Thanks again for sharing your experience with scrypted!

@slime-uk in order to achieve the same functionality as monoclecam, nothing. There is a paid version that includes more features and is geared towards full NVR functionality.

Yes what a shame - a good run though. Seems we all need to find a replacement. Thanks to all involved in Monocle over the years.

@ifloyd I have been at this a few days and it doesn’t appear to be a straight forward to accomplish as led to believe here. I am a systems engineer by trade, but can’t seem to get this working. Can you include a link or post your instructions to get this working? I am using Unifi Cameras and I installed Scrypted on a Windows 11 box. I was able to get the cameras in scripted, but when trying to enable the app in the alexa app, it is asking for a scripted cloud login and I did the trail version, which I believe was only for the NVR and even that never worked. Thoughts?

@BulldogBorn worked for me just following the Scrypted instructions. You need to enable the Scrypted skill in Alexa and link with the free Scrypted account you created in Scrypted cloud.

I couldn’t get it working either, I’ve a similar background to you, been in IT 40 years in various roles.

Alexa integration, won’t work for me either, I do have the cameras in scrypted

It’s not really intuitive to my old brain!!
