Can't figure out this RTSP URL thing? [ANSWERED]
-
I’m pretty much a dummy with this but with alot of online help I was able to setup my three Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z cameras with Blue Iris. Now after registering to use Monocle I’m trying to connect my cameras with a couple of Echo Shows 5 & 8.
I’ve tried going to the links provided and tried numerous combinations for the correct RTSP URL but keep failing… guess I just don’t understand what I’m doing well enough… been using VLC to test.
Could someone possibly walk me thru what my RTSP URL should be? Thanks!

@mike2874 it should be the RTSP url of the actual ip camera, assuming your echo show is on the same network as the cameras. Look up the rtsp url for your make and model, just google “xxxxxx rtsp url”

Dahua IPC-HDW5231R-Z
Take a look at https://www.ispyconnect.com/man.aspx?n=dahua&page=8 and search for your specific camera model.
Next, look for the “VLC” or “FFMPEG” listings — these are typically the RTSP stream URLs.Most Dahua based cameras use:
rtsp://X.X.X.X/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0
where
X.X.X.X
is the IP address of your camera. andsubtype
is typically0
for the main stream and1
for the sub-stream (if enabled). It’s best to verify the RTSP stream with a software like VLC before bothering with Alexa & Monocle.
