      Hello, I have a problem. I would like to connect my Amazon Show 5 to a camera using your software. I found out the RTSP stream. Via Vlc I get a picture after I have entered a password and username. After I enter the camera on your website, Alexa finds it too. If I want Alexa to show me the camera, Alex tries and breaks the sentence: “The camera does not respond.” I also changed the password and the type of transmission on your site (Basic and Digest). Can you help me? Greetings Iced

        same here ive two cameras both works with VLC but nothing showing on show 5…?
        ive the rtsp and username/password everything works good on VLC?
        please help

          A gateway is needed for some.

          Depending on what camera’s you have, also depends on if Monocle supports it and will work with it.
          There’s a lot of information on their site, you need to take some time to read.

          I did the same as you folks, got my streams showing on VLC.
          Are your camera’s supported on monocle?
          Do you need the gateway?
          So read the website… and search the forum for others that used you brand cameras…

          I don’t work for monocle, just a user that went through the same steps above and finally got mine working.

            Thanks for your answer and for the link. I’ll read through it all the time.
            Somehow I hoped that it would be the same gateway that I use for VLC. Let’s see, if I can do it I’ll report again.

              I’ve dealt with the topic now, thanks again for link and the food for thought. I read at the beginning that since I have an Amazon Show 5, I can’t get past the gateway. Too bad since my computer is not always on, it will probably be nothing with the camera picture. Hope it will be changed. Well, I’m going to look a little further.

                      Yes, the Monocle gateway would need to be running anytime you wanted to be able to access your cameras from Alexa. So for most people that would mean 24x7. It can run on a RaspberryPi or Docker instance if you want something lightweight.

                        Echo Show 5 and 8 definitely require using the Monocle Gateway. More info can be found here: https://monoclecam.com/monocle-gateway
                        These devices also require that you configure/use a stream resolution of 1080P or less. This would need to be configured on the camera itself, or use the secondary stream of the camera since most cameras include a low-resolution secondary stream.

                            DNS rebinding did not work. I fixed it, but it still doesn’t work :(

                              Can you post a log from your Monocle Gateway instance while you make a single request for a camera stream. Its best if you restart the Monocle Gateway and make a single camera request that fails and then post the information from the point it starts up to the end of the failed request.

                                  In the startup, it looks like it’s failing to start the listener on port 443. Is something else on this machine already using port 443?
                                  (See: https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/how-do-i-check-if-a-port-is-in-use-on-linux/)

                                  Alexa devices will only connect on port 443, so its important that the gateway can listen on port 443.

                                    Thanks for the hint. This is the problem. Now I have to find a way to free this mort or I need to install the gateway on another machine.

                                      Installed the gateway on another machine.
                                      Listening to port 443 works:

                                      root@monocle:~# sudo ss -tulpn | grep :443
tcp    LISTEN     0      128       *:443                   *:*                   users:(("monocle-gateway",pid=1672,fd=14))

                                      (Try to post the log in the next post. Your system ist classifing it as spam… ;) )
