@dathomas85 could you clarify what you did, I have traefik running and trying to get the monocle gateway going as well but I thought both need access to port 443 externally. What ports did you forward?

rtsp://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:554/Sms=12.unicast

The x’s are my outside ip address.

I cut and pasted the username and password as noted…

Not sure what i am doing wrong.

I still havent managed to get my Hikvision channel zero feed to work on my Alexa shows.

For info, all 3 URL’s below show my channel zero with VLC Player but not on Alexa.

My main camera feeds still work fine on Alexa Shows .e.g rtsp://192.168.1.101:554/Streaming/Channels/101/ works fine (.101 is actual camera).

The resolution of my channel zero is 704 x 576 so not very high resolution (my Alexa shows should be able to hande this resolution easily).

These work on VLC Player but not on Alexa.

rtsp://192.168.1.57:554/Streaming/Channels/001?videocodec=jpeg&Transport=HTTP

I tried adding some additional parameters to the rtsp URL to see if that made any difference (it didn’t).

My Hikvision cams work fine with Monocle. Here is a valid RTSP URL for Hikvision cams:-
rtsp://192.168.1.57:554/Streaming/Channels/101/

Just replace the bold IP address with the IP address of your IP cam that is on your local Network (so the IP address of my cam is .57 on LAN 192.168.1.x. The “101” at the end is Channel 1 Sub channel 1 for that cam. The .554 is the port for RTSP access.

You then need to enable the Monocle skill on your Alexa App then “search” for cameras. The cameras you add to Monocle will then appear in your Alexa App. Sounds like you have done this part.

A quick way of testing your RTSP URL is to use VLC Player. Select “Open Network Stream” from the Media Menu. Paste in your RTSP URL then VLC will prompt you for the username and password. If the RTSP URL is valid VLC player will show the stream.

If you dont know your camera models and dont know your RTSP URL downlaod a handy utility called “ONVIF Device Manager”. This will scan your LAN and show any IP cams it finds. You can then double click on the cameras it finds, then click “Live Video” and it will tell you what the RTSP URL is at the bottom of the window.

Hope this helps.

I’ll also note that VERY often the camera shows as Buffering.

Something else odd is that the longer I stream it, the longer the delay is. I use it to monitor our child in the crib. I can hear him cry and go get him and come back to our room and the camera still shows him standing there (which is always odd).

Any ideas or suggestions?

Monocle is a “Smart Home Skill” which means that it conforms to the Smart Home Device APIs. I’m not aware of any means (including via routines) to get a camera to display apart from directly asking the Alexa device to show you the camera by name. I wish Amazon would open up some API to do this as this could open up many other integration possibilities. For example, water detected in basement – show Basement camera on Echo Show. The “Smart Home Skills” have a limited set of APIs and I don’t think we can add direct support for routines. I’ll look more into it, but I doubt it’s possible at this time.

@jkwhle23 So it looks like using ‘docker logs <container id>’ is the best way to see logs. But now Im getting ‘uncaught Exception Invalid RTSP Request-Line’ errors. I’ll post a new thread.
