In the RTSP negotiation from the IP camera, there is a fmtp message in the SDP (descriptor) data that help describe some information about the stream to the endpoint device (in this case the Alexa 10" 3rd Gen) . The @fakefmtp tag will instruct the Monocle Gateway to replace the real fmtp signature with a known working one. This helps get some cameras working where the Alexa device would immediately refuse to play the stream based on the contents of the fmtp signature. So in essence we would lie to Alexa about the stream in hope that she would at least attempt to play it. In some cases it works. This could also be related to some IP cameras not including the right data in the fmtp signature or missing something.

As for the new 3rd gen Alexa 10" show … I have not tested this one yet but have seen several reports of it not working at all. I guess I need to order one – but I’m not really sure what possible reason it could be failing — unless its more Amazon effort to kill local connectivity and force everything to the cloud. :-)

Good news that you have fixed the DNS resolver issue. My configuration here is using tags: @fakefmtp, @tunnel

Another issue I have had is that I have been running out of user streams…if that makes sense. I thought it was related to using ONVIF. I am using onvif jpg, rtsp, onvif. The test is using VLC. Sometimes I get an error stating no more streams allowed. This also was seen sometimes with the Alexa. I have had to remove the Zoneminder and Blue Iris streams to solved the issues.

Is there a solution to getting the HD DS1 doorbell working with Monocle yet ??

For anyone stumbling upon this thread down the road, there is an option in the settings to enable a third substream, which has a 720p option, albeit at a low frame rate and bit rate (this is on firmware V5.5.82 build 190909). I’m doing some testing now to see if I’m satisfied with that option for viewing my baby camera on my Fire TV sticks.

Go to “Configuration”, “System”, “Maintenance”, and under the “System Service” tab you’ll find a checkbox for it.

@Rabi Not sure why the lack of response from Monocle but they say that the 4K is currently not supported and a ‘workaround’ is being sought, but it has been like this for quite sometime now. I also have the 4K and Alexa just says ‘Hmm, the camera isn’t responding’. I’m not sure they are aware how to fix.
