The Monocle Gateway is now available for the RaspberryPi as a Debian installer package (*.deb) and does install as a system service/daemon (via systemd)

@Monocle Though maybe it was my VPN for when I download torrents, no such luck. Turned it off, restarted everything and came up with the same results in the log. Going to look at the router (also Synology) and try and dig deeper.

Robert @ Monocle, Thank you for your reply, I’ll look into this Raspberry Pi to see what kind of a hassle it might be, otherwise, not sure. I was able to use your Alexa skill with just my Echo Spot 1st gen but was unable to with my subsequent newer Echo devices, however using your gateway I can view my camera’s on all my Alexa and Fire TV devices which I will continue to do for now. Thanks again Robert.

okay, it seem that connection between gateway and your server is now okay. by opening the stream by alexa , it will open the stream but it comes another error

I don’t have any concrete timeline to share, but most likely won’t happen until Q1 2020. Are you having trouble with the current Windows installation instructions? I’d be happy to help if you are running into any snags with it?

@Jouster-74 is right, running the Monocle Gateway is necessary for compatibility with Echo Show 5 and 8. Do you have a PC you can use to start with to at least test and get it up and running? If successful, then longer term you may prefer to try and get it working/running on your NAS. Getting it running on the NAS can be tricky so its better to start simple and confirm its all working properly before trying to get working on a NAS device.

Not sure, I’ll have to try installing on Ubuntu 19.10 and see what we get.

In the meantime, you can try this older BASH script method of installations rather than the Debian package.

There is not currently a method to access the RTSP stream directly thru the Monocle Gateway from VLC or any other typical RTSP viewer. The Monocle Gateway exposes the streams only via secure TLS connection, which I don’t think VLC supports. Furthermore, the Monocle Gateway does not know about all your configured cameras up front. It is only aware of a stream once a request to Alexa has been made and our backend system sends the request to your Monocle Gateway instance.

We are open to adding this type of support in a future version of Monocle Gateway. Please post a request of what you are looking for under the “Feature Request” topic.

I wonder if the audio frequency makes any difference. I seem to recall that I had buffering issues on these cameras until I lowered the audio codec frequency.

Well, the Monocle Gateway is trying to connect to “192.168.1.26” however, it’s failing to connect.
It probably something to do with the networking settings of the docker instance since you are running it on Synology.
Can you try running it on another computer to verify you can get it working first – before trying to troubleshoot Synology & Docker?

No, it’s fine in the same directory as the executable. We suggest the /etc/monocle folder because that’s a more common Linux config path. However if future versions support a web interface allowing the user to change the token, then a fixed path may be required then.
